Safety is important to us at Decatur Makers. We want to create a culture of safety that actually keeps members safe.

We do our best to show you how to use tools safely through classes and through the support of knowledge of our staff and members, but we can't anticipate every use you'll have for the tools. Even with perfect technique, the tools can still hurt you. Safety is a practice, not a box to be checked off once, and is ultimately your responsibility. Every member, as well as all guests that use our equipment, are required to sign our , which covers every visit to our makerspace.

If you don't know how to use a tool, ask someone for help or take a class, but remember that the true source of safety protocols is usually the user manual.
